Multi-Port Fuel Injection

After 2 years, I got very annoyed at the poor performance of the stock Carter carburator and the mess of vacuum lines under the hood. So I decided to look into fuel injection. After a bit of research, I chose the Mopar MPI kit. This kit is the most expensive solution, costing $2500CDN before taxes, but it had many advantages over the others. It is based on the '94 Jeep 4.0L, so parts can be had quickly from any auto parts store or Chrysler dealership, and I can use the Jeep Factory Service Manual for diagnostics and repairs. It is also multi-port injected which provides more power which is further helped with the K&N filter that came in the box. And it is setup to meet low emmissions laws, which is good for the environment and good for when we start getting tested.

Since I didn't have a garage and only limited tools and knowledge, I went a do-it-yourself garage. I spent three 8 hour sessions to complete the swap well enough to drive it home and had to come back to fix up a couple things.

Instructions were adequate but should have been much better considering the price of the kit. A service manual can really help. I also used generous amounts of dielectric silicone grease on all the connectors. I can pressure wash my engine and it will still run.

Work in progress, all the old stuff removed.
No more carb.

I only had minor problems along the way such as needing a torch to remove a piece of tubing off the exhaust manifold and having to file some edges off the intake manifold to make it fit. But overall it was a bolt-on solution with very little frustrations.

As was mentioned in the instructions, the windshield bottle won't fit if the ECM is placed on the firewall behind it. I did place the ECM there and I had to find a replacement quickly as the garage was closing and it was snowing outside. So I looked at the remaining space, picked up a 4 Liter jug of spare fluid and dropped it in. A perfect fit, I've been using them ever since.

I am very happy with this kit. In the 5 years I've had it, it has never given me any trouble and only required regular maintenance.
