Homebuilt Trunk
I had the Mopar trunk for a couple years, but I never much liked it. It had an odd shape and the bolts quickly rusted making it difficult to remove. So I started working on my own design. I used two pieces of thin sheet steel and strenghtened them with angle aluminum. A 36" hinge attaches them together and allows for easy access to deep items. Sliding door latches lock it to the fender wells. This made it very easy to remove in case I needed the free the back of the Jeep.
I put springs in the door latches to ensure they would stay engaged in the rough. A small screws holds the spring in place.
Now that I've dedicated my Jeep to off-roading I need more carge space so I removed the rear seat and put in a Tuffy Cargo Box. So the trunk is gone but I still like it a lot.
