4.2L YJ temp gauge port?

Any one installed a temp gauge sending unit on a 4.2L ? The port at the back of the block looks about 1/4". there's no way i'm getting a sending unit into that....anyone know of an alternate port/take off? i can't find anything useable...Spring fever is coming quickly and i NEED gauges : )

The 4.0L head thermostat housing has a port too. I don't know the thread size and I don't know if the thermo housing will fit the 4.2L, but could be an option to research.
