Will soon take purchase of another xj(2000) and want to do the 8.8 swap. Question is, can I use the rear diff out of an 02 crown Vic cop car? I see everyone using them out of explorers but I have a line on the crown Vic. Any help is appreciated.

I would check on www.naxja.org that is where I get info when I need it as it has everything just about Cherokee's and for some reason I think I have read that is not a great choice due to WMS but I can't say for sure offhand as I have never went the 8.8 route.

Spidey-sense is echoing the same thing here. Mind you, if it is wider it might not be a big deal if you are planning on running a different front axle.

If it is narrower then you might have issues. For frame of reference, I have a Scout II Dana 44 in the back of my XJ that started life at 58" wide. It now has a full float kit and custom bracket spacing, disk setup, 8" wide 5" BS wheels and 265/75-16 tires... I have maybe 1/4" - 3/8" of space between the tires and the leaf pack clips. I love the turning radius though. :)

Wow that's like exactly what I need. Would be so painless. Unfortunately the unexpected purchase of granite counter tops, hot tub and deck rebuilding kinda took away all my funds. Maybe I'll get back to you later and see if you have it.

I'll look into the info. Thanks guys.

Anytime your ready it's tucked away in a nice
Spot in my garage. Oh there is not a spot of rust
on it too.

Thanks

Other than the width it will be the same, may stand a better chance having the brakes work with out having to do anything

crown vic 8.8's have the weaker 28 spline shafts. Stick to 95-01 explorers if you want 31 splines + discs.

Well after doing some research I found out I already have a Chrysler 8.25(towing package). I thought it looked different. Thanks everyone.

It'll be fine for my needs since I won't be doing a lot of hard core wheelng(daily driver). And on a side note I've never actually seen or broken a 35 on any of my other beater rigs that I abused the shit out of. I'm pretty sure it will be fine. I'll leave the hardcore wheeling to my Sammie.
