Once in the hydro cut, there were a couple of mud hole crossings that were pretty deep. I am new to these trails, so it is hard for me to gauge.

Is it hard to hook up with the group in the Calabogie area? I could head up there if I knew I could meet the group.

not hard at all if you follow the directions on the opening page there is no way you can miss them!

today was my first time in the area and i found them no problem.

you would just have to make sure you registered with terry. you cant miss him he is the one that is "full of awesomeness"

Thanks. I think the issue is getting up there in time to register. I will probably stay in town. My wife is interested in checking out Dwyer Hill after seeing the pics from last week. I have been scoping the area using Google Maps, so I may try to get to the Hydro cut closer to my home....right off Dwyer Hill.

I be willing to check out dwyer hill just so we do not have to get up so early to make it to calabogie. I do have 30 inch tires though so not that low but still not that high

My wife and I hit the trail head around 11:25. The trail in was fun, some deep water, but I think a stock jeep would have gotten through. Made it into the hydro cut not exactly where I planned, just before the water hole under the tower (should have gone left instead of right earlier). On the way out, I almost missed a Quad that had swamped himself and was stuck in a hole. When I attempted to pull him out, I almost got stuck myself....almost scaring my wife out of the sport!! :D She won't be coming out "alone" again..... I finally got the truck out of the mud and pulled the Quad along until he jumped his bike. Met a couple others guys on the trail too.

Fun day.

we were there at 10:20 no sign of any one. I think we found the enterance not far from the exit we went through the second water crossing but did nto want to try the third one alone.

Whats funny is I swear that is not the normal way of getting into Dwyer hill and personally I don't find that trail worth having to change fluids out each time to be safe. Every time I went with Matt we went in a different way and for some reason Logan picked a different one. Essentially it is recommended any deep water crossing you should change the diff fluid and tranny to make sure you don't get water. Last time I didn't have any in my diff but I did have in my transmission.

We went in a different entrance than Logan took us in last week. We did leave that way though, at the big burm. Most of the puddles were tried up.....except for the deep ones.

The diffs don't go under the water much with my truck....the wheel drives do. I am draining the oil in them after most deep water.

Define 'deep water'. Over the axles? Up to the rockers? Up to the windows?

Essentially if your diffs get submerged for a good amount of time, best practice is to change the fluid in them. The last time I went through the water hole there it got up to the bottom of the lights. That ended up being over the top of the transmission which ended up getting water in there as the rubber bushing was toast. The water was deep enough I could feel the body starting to float.
If I were to eyeball deep water I would say bottom of doors would be the point I would think about changing the fluids. May be a bit on the conservative side but nothing worse for gearing than water (well maybe mud if it got in there)

Berger... saw this thread a bit too late to make it out. If you are ever in there and need some help send me a PM. I live about 5 mins away so I could always come out. Sounds like you had some fun anyways! Has it dried up much from last weekend?
