AUX/DRL wiring on F150

My DRLs are not working, dealer quoted $250 to fix (plug, resistor, I'm not sure what else)
Seems more than a little steep to me.

So I'm thinking I should be able to wire up my fog lights with a relay switched by keyed power to do get me DRLs again for a lot less than $250. I'm figuring it shouldn't cost more than $20 to do it this way. I'd also have the advantage of being able to have the fogs AND high beams on at the same time.

Any thoughts?

PS. Yes John, I'm to do some...

Why are you even bothering to fix this? Does it need to be safetied or something? Are the cops in Kanata anal enough to pull over for something like this (don't answer that)?

No safetly, I'm fixing it because I want to have DRLs. I think everyone should have them. I haven't had a vehicle without them in more than 10 yrs and I never think of just turning the lights on. I'm lazy with things like this, I want some sort of auto headlights.

The module is $100 by itself. I'm cheaper than I am lazy.
I wasn't planning on a switch but keyed power to activate the relay.
Key on they'd be on, key off they'd be off. Kind of like DRLs should be.

Yes, just as you say. Make sure the relay is rated for what the DRL's (fog lights) will pull - most (CT) are 30 amp, 40 amp are available.
