blower resistor advice

Hello!

I had a issue where my heat would only turn on max, no big deal i didn't care that much, I looked it up and found out it was likely my blower resistor has to be changed.

well. My fans/heat wont turn on at all anymore, is it the same issue and it just took a little while to die completely?

Thank you in advance!

this is not uncommon, the resistors in blower motors go all the time, and often go bit at a time. depending on the vehicle can change just the resistor, or in some cases need the whole assembly. they are usually very easy and fast to change. and not to expensive. also places like kennys u pull it might be an option.

Yeah, I just went through that. Mine worked on low and sometimes high, then high quit.

I called around to find a heater switch as I believed that was what it was. Places started telling me it might be the "resistor", so I bought one at Parts Source for $80 bucks. Installed that and nothing. Ended up being what I thought it was (switch), so I got one from the dealership for $43 and returned the resistor.

All is warm now.

Typically if its a resistor it will still work on high. So if high isn't working I would start elsewhere. Check your fuses and for power at your blower motor would be the first thing I would be doing.

Yeah I was assuming it was the resistor because it would only work on high for like 5 months, and then started to sputter one day and now wont work at all. I figured it just got worse and worse.

I was going to swap it out today but the stealership told me it was 109$ while the mechanic i deal with told me it should have been closer to 20$ 5 months ago so I assumed I must be asking for the wrong thing.

thx for the advice, going to call around tomorrow, I would rather my money stays out of the greedy dealers hands.

Sounds to me that the RHEOSTAT in the control switch is blown and not the resistors...

hopefully its not a expensive fix if thats the case. How hard is it to rip the piece out of my dash and pop in the new one?

it turns out it was just a wobbly connector that has melted a little bit,

I still only had high speed on my blower so i switched out the resistor. I swear they put that thing in the most inconvenient spot ever just to screw with you. Mine after I got the
bolts out was welded together with some kind of magic i ended up busting the clasp and holding onto one end with plyers and reefing on the other to get it off.

but now everything is working, thanks for all the advice gentlemen!
