Cherokee questions

Hey Everyone,

I've recently bought an 1999 Cherokee Sport, 4.0 liter, 4 door, 5 speed. The body is in really good shape except for two spots on the floor and a couple patches of surface rust. The main problem right now is the rear leaf springs, they sag really bad, and even with new shocks I'm pretty much riding on the bump stops.

Does anyone know a good place to have them rebuilt and roughly how much it would cost? I heard TDL and suggested replacing a leaf rather than adding a leaf...

As for the leaf springs, you can either get the set you have them re arced or a new main leaf. There are lots of options.

On the building the cherokee, if your plans are for 33s only then ya they are a great rig. I had one on 33s and loved it. That being said, if you are planing to go any bigger then that then I would suggest getting a full framed rig. There are a few guys on here that have done it but it is a ton of work. If I was to do it again I would have skipped the XJ and started with my YJ.

Yeah, I don't really want to go any bigger than 33's because I'll buy a CJ, YJ, or TJ and go bigger. I don't want to get into swapping axles or anything to crazy because of the Cherokees being monobody and knowing that eventually that lack of frame is gonna bite me in the ass.

I've been reading up on some of the local "stock friendly" trails and am wondering about front tow points, a buddy who has my old '89 Cherokee suggested getting a front hitch for tow points, are there other options that are better?

Yes you should have toe points.
I have a nice warn winch bumper with toe points for sale. Pm if interested.

Like I said I have done exactly what you are planing to do. Like I said if I was to do it again I would skip the XJ.
