We'll it' s not WAS yet.

Much like Larosse, the "other" activities have been granted access but the 4x4 people have been forgotten.

Here is a link to a short survey for them to see the economical impact we make on the area that surrounds it.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YNMTGG8

Please take a minute and fill it out.

The Forest Ouareau is probably some of the best off-road trails in the Ont/Quebec area and we are about to be banned from...

I'm putting a crane on my truck and using it around the property. At least then it will get used. I guess I will waste my time and fill out the survey!

Lets see didn't we do this for Tellico, Larose, Paragon........ I give up!! I'm buying a side by side ATV and calling it a day!

:banghead:

Hehe, side by sides seem to not be as welcome as much, lots of ATV trails I have been on have signs that UTV are not allowed. Some of the big ones like the Razor 900 I think is 64 inches wide. It's pretty much the size of a CJ2A lol. I guess there is power in numbers as they say though like snowmobiling....

This might be a dumb question but...

Why would 4x4's be getting banned from using the park/trail? Sounds like this is becoming a common issue?

In a nutshell.

Some folks see anyone using a mechanized vehicle in nature as the enemy, destroying the environment. Since 4x4's are a very visible yet small and disorganized group (when it comes to this kind of stuff), we're an easy target to pick on. After all, what uneducated person out there wouldn't believe that some monster truck on big ass tires isn't doing damage to the trail? Snowmobiles and ATVs have large advocacy groups to keep their access rights, leaving us with a large target on our backs and out in the cold.

Thanks Kunker,

That makes a lot of sense, not the assumption that anything mechanical in nature would be bad so much, but I could see how people could come to that conclusion. Ironically, from the sounds of it you guys probably care more about keeping the forests clean and protected then most since you're actually out there enjoying it.

This is why we need to educate people and change their perception. The only reason there are more ATVs out there isn't because they have lower impact, but because people can buy them ready made, and they're cheaper to get onto the trail with.

I'm trying to get something together for our local fair (I'm on the board for the conservation zone) that shows that it's not only possible to leave little impact with larger OHVs, but is done routinely by clubs all over.

Yeah, we can put an information display out there and then park an ATV, but that's precisely reinforcing the perception that "small is ok".

It would be much better if we could get something out there from the local 4x4 clubs, and even have a couple of rigs so people make the connection.

Any ideas out there? Wasting my time?

it's all about being in the public eye. Toys for tots, Forest Clean ups, Twist-Off, AutoRamma.....Also being a part of a larger organization like Northern Lights ( hopefully they figure out the whole insurance thing soon). I tried to get Tread Lightly going again in Canada, but there was no interest. The biggest problem is numbers. Between the two current offroad association we have less then 2000 members across Canada. How many ATV's and sleds are there just in Ontario? 20,000? IN the end it doesn't matter what we do, we will loose trails. We took 70 tons of garbage out of Marborough Forest and still lost. We went to meetings for Larose and lost. We did everything we could for Tellico and lost, and we will loose Chertsey too. We don't have a voice.

:banghead:

While I would like to say otherwise I do feel the cards are stacked against us. We (4x4 folks) were excluded from the development plan because they didn't know we existed as avid users of the forest. BULLSHIT, we pulled containers full shit out of the woods for the last 3 years and there wasn't one ATV or GREENpeace Fawker around to help

The town of Chertsey even helped organize the events. The town of Chertsey is on our side, but they only have a small area that they have jurisdiction over. The big question is, If we were so unnoticed why the hell are they trying to keep us out?
The plots of land they are going to use leaves about 90% of the existing 4x4 trails to be used, why are they kicking us out!!!!

My best guess is the snowmobile and ATV guys said "aw those guys never come up here, no need to include them...". they have the numbers and the power!!!!

Anyway things got worse today and it's more than likely not even a 4x4 guy that was part of this crap...

New entrance gateway building as of today.
