Crag Lake Trail run Sunday Sept. 13

So far it's 2 guys I don't know but seem new (correct me if I'm wrong), and a guide with no truck and *may* come. If we don't get more experienced people and a guide that is more certain of making it, I'll have to call this off and make other plans. So if you plan on going speak up, I'm not waiting till Sunday morning to find out!

me and Scott K. were gonna be camping nearby, we'd be in for sunday and can meet @ the trailhead. Scott has experience on the trail and would be bringing his own truck.

Mike, like I said we're leaving ATS at 10:00, airing down at the dam, then head off to the trail head. So I'm guessing we'll meet 11:30-noon? I'm not sure how far the trail head is, is it the 2nd entrance from the DAM?

And we'll be on CB ch. 4.

This is likely one of the few good weekends left of summerish weather. I wouldn't cancel just because experienced people are not available. Go anyway. Where is your sense of adventure? This is off-roading afterall. And there are plenty of other trails in that area, so there will be somewhere we can go if not Craig Lake.

If you are going to cancel, PLEASE post immediately. Last weekend had people cancel, but not post or call. Seriously irritating. I will check postings tonight before I leave Sunday morning.

Chunkytrunks--How long is the trail for an experienced driver with a capable rig? And how did you get that name?

Don't worry I'm not canceling it now, there's enough people that say they're going to go. Like you said some people cancel without posting, and with only 2 people *saying* they're coming I didn't want to be left alone out there, that kind of adventure I can do without.

The trail takes a little while because it's very tight so you have to take your time. It takes around 5hrs on average.
I got the name from where i used to work. Was a joke.

If you have a capable truck you can run it alone, just need to know how to find the trail. By alone I mean with a passenger but with a capable truck.

Didn't pay any attention to the second time, I wasn't driving.

And by alone the club means minimum of TWO rigs.

I did it in about 3 hours I think, that's with just my truck, took about 5 hours with lunch and traveling in and out while trying to find the trail that I hadn't seen in 20 years.

I fully understand the buddy system, but I have no quams about driving 12 hours to the middle of nowhere to go fishing and wheeling with just my truck as it is set up for it, and I always bring someone who I trust. That being said, I agree with the club endorsement.

So, how was the run, any pics? I was just leaving Ottawa heading to Arnprior when the wife called and said she had to work today and needed me home for the kids. I was looking forward to meeting some new people and checking out this trail.

LOL! Well we all know why it only took 2 hrs the first time you ran it. :lmao:
It usually takes 4-5hrs when you are trying to avoid damage :flipoff:
Thats including tavel time o and from the dam, and playing on the obstacles.

Well we got in about 30mins, when I sheared my driveshaft on a nasty uphill climb. :banghead: Need more breakover clearance!!! I turned around and everyone else decided to follow me out as I had only front wheel drive. They were really good about it. After ten minutes and some of the worst obstacles were past me, I told them to turn back and finish the trail, and slogged on by myself. My confidence was justified as I made it out alright and drove home. Future plans now include heavier driveshafts as the factory one was seen to be very light. I am sure the others have more to tell, and Richard took pics to post.

Brook, glad to hear you made it home alright, Justin got your note when we got out.

We started the trail at noon with Justin, Brook, Mike Szabo and myself. It went smoothly until,... well see above. The rest of the trail went well, Justin quickly realized he should put down his soft top. There was a lot of tree hugging and a low lying branch came through the roll cage and almost took my head off, but no damage to vehicles or passengers. I had no real problems getting through, but a lot of places my tires barely fit between the trees. We got out at 4:00.

I really like this trail, I'll have to do it again next summer and bring my swimsuit and go snorkeling in the lake.

I did take pics and videos, I'll post what I can later.
