Floor work

Well it turns out my new Jeep wasn't the bargain I thought it was... the two front cab body mount areas are rusted out and need patching! Any one here capable and looking to make a few dollars on the side?

Give me a price and time and you can do it for me!

redoing my floor was something i took on last winter - i had never attempted a project like that up to that point but found it was relatively easy even if you've never done a job like that before (a little patience is a must too). I say do it yourself - you'll learn alot and it'll be a rewarding experience.

I'm leaning towards doing it myself and needed an excuse to buy a welder. But I'm needing this on the road ASAP. All the floor is solid except the area around these two mounts..Sucks really anywhere else I would have just riveted a tin plate over it and worried about it come spring.

How much rust is too much rust. How do you know if body mounts have to be repaired also? My floor is pretty rusted. Thought I would purchase these and try to find a body shop to weld them in. YJ is old & just want to keep it on the road with minimal investment.....

Any local body shop you guys recommend?

Anybody on this board do side work?

Thx :)

for the floor stab at it with a screwdriver. I ended up patching a couple of holes on my floor with some steel I got from Loucon. it was a great way to learn how to weld. however if your floor is bad enough then you are better off getting those than patching a bunch of small holes.

I'd wheel it
Wow! This thread is a dinosaur.

I wonder if the OP ever got his floor fixed? Lol.

On my last tj, a club member cut out parts of my floor and welded in patches. I would make a recommendation, but I don't want to volunteer anyone.

For my current tj, I bought the front stamped panels above from quadratec. They were cheap enough that it made sense. I plan to cut out the largest section of rust and trim to fit. I would volunteer myself, but 1) I am not a good welder and 2) I haven't had time to do my own project :)

The body mounts are a trickier one. I have never done one, but if the tub is still on the frame, you would have to cut the top side of the channel out of the body to gain access to the rusted out mount, cut and weld in a patch on the bottom side of the tub. But if you cut out a large enough section, you could possible do it from the bottom.

I can't recommend a body shop, but maybe someone in the club will be looking to take on a winter project......

Hey, thanks for the reply.

My last jeep that had the rusted floor problem a few years ago i just drive to the industrial park that has lots of mechanics & body shops. Found a shop that welded in some metal for $100.
Now I go into these places & they're charging through the ass?
