Front Driveshaft help.

Took the truck out for a good run this weekend. My Double Cardan is cooked, but more importantly when under big flex the front driveshaft stretches right out and apart. So I need some help measuring my compressed and max flex in order to get Malmbergs to make me one that works. Trouble is of course that I need to flex it out in two wheel drive and take measurements....anyone have any suggestions? or able to help me out?

+1 on Jesse.

He made me a 12" slip shaft, clearanced the stock CV to work at 40 Deg and re-tubed and balanced it for about $200.00

I would call Jesse at High Angle Drive Line.

Wait a sec, this dude is in California...that doesn't help me with length measurements....I still need some help flexing it out and measuring min and max lengths...all in two wheel drive. While the shop suggestion is awesome...I haven't got a forlift at my place to flex my truck out! :(

No need to measure when you get a 12" slip :flipoff:

He just asks for static flange to flange distance.

I went with the TG 10" slip. Measures length on flat ground and had Malmberg make the shaft that lenght with the slip 1/2 way extended.
ANd it works well.
In retrospect. I have much less compression thatn droop, so 25 - 30% exposed spline should have been fine.

Ok, now I'm getting it. :smokin:

Looks like High Angle is the way to go then. For the TG 10" kit you only get the spline? and have to still get the Cardan welded up? seems pricey???

Adrian, you said about $200.00 all in? or was yours just the 12" spline??

She won't climb very well in two wheel drive...I tried getting it up on all sorts of stuff but no luck. Sounds like I'll be able to use static measurements with a long spline and not worry about extended measurements. Hot damn...Toyota's are expensive!!! :banghead:

I sent him two cores (two IFS front shafts) he Clearanced both CV's for 40 deg, re-tubed and balanced both, stock slip in rear and 12" slip in front for $420.00

I just looked through my e-mails and the front shaft was $279.00

Loco

I'd wheel it
J.D. To measure it flexed, if you have a tall enough hi-lift (might need more than a 48" depending on your articulation), just jack it up on the wheel using a short length of chain with hook either end through the holes in the rim and through the hole in the cradle of the jack (kinda like a sling). Easier to picture than write. Call me if you need clarification.

Thanks Dude...but even with the 48" High lift I've got -1/2 of my 36's isn't enough of a lift to max it out....As Adrian stated, with a 12" spline who cares how much it articulates!

Hey,

I have a square tube front shaft you can use if you want a temp solution, I built it a while ago and never used it, it would be easy to cut to length, or if you want to build a driveshaft that's a couple of inches longer for a few bucks, I could do it for you, send me a PM.
