Gas tank Skid

will a factory gas tank skid off a grand cherokee fit a XJ? (approx same year, both mid 90s)

There might be differences due to specifically that one has coils and one has leafs. I know the one I made was a real SOB (even the factory ones are) to install because there is so little clearance between the leafs, the unibody frame and the tank itself.
Nothing some steel, torches and a welder won't adapt I imagine. Can you get your hands on it to place it up close before buying it?

no found it in a wrecking yard still on truck, dont want to have to take it off if it is not going to work.

I've got one from a 96 Grand leaning against the wall of my garage collecting dust if you are interested.
