I blew up yet another Toyota IFS hub, and this time it is MANGLED. I have an IFS hub widening kit, with spacers I machined, which are an exact copy of the Sky IFS hub spacers, except they use 12.9 socket head cap screws instead of the factory bolts. For the second time (once on either side) the spacer bolts have come loose, sheared, and the rotor has separated from the hub. This essentially means no brakes on on the side that separates. It gave me plenty of warning (weird brake pedal...

This concerns me a little. I used a SKY widening kit and am worried now. Has anyone else had these issues? I used new bolts and copper antisieze. WOndering if I should have used red loctite instead.

Well, I got a pair of hubs off of bancm out in (forget name of town) around Mud Lite's place. He's got a nice shop with some cool toys and a bunch of Toyota stuff saved up. The price was super cheap and he had a cold beer for me when I showed up, awesome place to go shop for parts!!!! He's also working on a CJ7 with a V8 in it.

I think part of the problem is the socket head cap screws (allen head) bolts I used. They have less head surface area than the factory bolts, with the captive washers, and I think the metal under the head is deforming. I am going to machine the spacers with a larger bore hole, so I can use the factory bolts, like the Sky kit does. I also think 37s and a heavy engine are making my front end work pretty hard.

My kit came with bolts....socket head cap screws ...from Sky.
I guess I'll keep an eye on them when I start driving the truck.

To attach the spacer to the hub, or the rotor to the spacer? I remember reading the instructions on the Sky site and seeing that the Sky kit reused the bolts that were originally for attaching the rotor to the hub, in order to hold the spacer on. For the rotor to the spacer joint, I used rounded head SHCS.

The plan is to use the stock bolts ot attach the spacer to the hub, but that means I have to enlarge the holes, and finish bore them with and endmill to get a flat surface on the bottom.
