So I need to do the front brakes on my Jeep (ZJ). Pads and rotors.
I could just take it in but I want to learn. I'm too nervous to try this sort of thing on my own.
Anyone willing to give me a few hours (not sure how long it takes) and help me out? I have the service manual for the Jeep (thanks Keith) if that helps.
I'll be happy to come to you with beer :)

I can give you a hand too. Shouldnt take more then 30-40 minutes. I changed my u-joints in under 1 hour and did my pads at the same time.

Working on brakes, steering and suspension by non certified person is illegal in ON. :smokin:

Its illegal if your doing it as a job. If you're working on your own vehicle its fine. Even if it isnt, well, I've done much more then simple brakes and suspension for years on my own vehicle and friends vehicles.

If it were truly illegal why woudl they sell parts at Canadian tire

Does this include your own vehicle?
Yes, even your own vehicle. Brakes done by some crakhead backyarder are turning someones 2 tons wheeled brick into very efective weapon. I dont minde him kiling himself, but who can be in the car against him? Maybe you, me, my kids.... Think about that.

Does it say that in the HTA or some where? I'd like to see that. Otherwise it is perfectly fine to work on your brakes.

Thanks

Thats why we have safety inspections...

As i said... I've done all my own work on my Ranger and on my jeep. Both are safer then the idiot mechanics I see around.

For example my Cherokee had brake pads on it that were installed by a certified mechanic but they were on the wrong sides. Right ones on the left side and left ones on the right side.

THAT is what a certified mechanic gets you.

I don't trust anyone with my vehicles, certified or not.

Ive seen MANY certified mechanice screw up brake jobs. Ill the mechanics I now trucst are backyard mechanics. I used to go through a wheel bearing every few months in my car. 4 times brought it to a mechanic, a different one each time, and they said it was a faulty bearing. I then brought it to a backyard guy, he found the issue, and havent had an issue since.

If you know what your doing, I dont see an issue. I wouldent let someone who has never done it before work on my brakes.

I quess we in the club are all driving around in illegal trucks and cars. Is their anyone in the club who have not done their own brakes, upgraded their steering ,lifted their suspension in their own shop. That is one of the things that makes this sport so much fun fixing and building your truck on your own. I have just added power steering (illegally) to Jimbog

I dont think she wants to try it for the first time on OUR vehicles.. in which case I'd say over my dead body. But if she wants help learning on her own vehicle I'd be more then happy to help out.
