What is the best way to do it? Tried the hammer method and we'll now I need a new bearing and seal.

Press is how I do them when I have the axle shaft out. Though on vehicle I have pulled them in with a nut and a larger nut as a spacer but realistically you could end up stretching them and making them unsafe. I have never had one break but make sure that when you pull them through that you don't go much over the recommended torque for that stud and make sure you line them up with the current knurl marks in the hub.

I use a stud installer. It is like what Dwayne said with a larger nut, but the installer has a taper and a bearing - perfect install every time.

Same as Dwayne, lug nut and larger nut as a spacer with some grease on the knurled portion.

Careful with grease, it actually can create less space for the stud to go into as it is hydraulic, I would use a thin film lubricant or silicone if anything.

I just but a larger nut, then an actual wheel nut, and pulled it in by hand wit a wrench. No impact required.
