K i have a 1985 jeep cj7 with a 360 v8 and i only drove it for about a week, then my rear axle broke. im looking for a whole new rear end. it has to be something that can take the v8 without breaking every couple of days. lol.

A Dana 60 isn't giong to fit without some serious mods. Being an 85 and from what you have discribed you have an AMC 20 rear diff. They are 2 piece axles and sounds like you have stripped/broke the axle at the wheel flange. You can buy 1 piece axle shafts from various companies like Yukon etc. With these axles and some bracing your AMC 20 will hold up fine for mild wheeling. The easiest axle swap would be a Dana 44 out of another Cj

X2...if you do plan to beat on it, or throw some serious tires at it, truss the axle and make sure you weld the tubes to the center section.

Just to complicate things if you do deside to swap axles with one from another CJ make sure you get the right width. The CJ's axles came in both wide track and narrow track widths.

well now i rilly dont know what im doing. lol. im only 18, so i prolly dont have the cash for a whole rear end. so i might just swap out the axles.. o and by the way, burnouts on dry pavement are fun.. lol

In that case get some replacement one piece shafts and call it done. If the 360 is "1985 stock" it doesn't have enough power/torque to break much of anything anyway. As others said, AMC20 can be a decent axle if you are smart about upgrading it.

PM'd. I've got spare axles- they're widetrack and I think the narrow track was only used up to 81'? so you should be good for a width match. The rear is an AMC20 with the 1 piece Moser conversion already done. Would swap right in and give you the added strength you're after. Only thing to check is your gearing- this one is 2.56. But you could take the gears from your old one if they're still good and swap them in too worst case.
