Just some info I found interesting

I always wondered why with medium gearing I did very well. I run an auto tranny and found out today from a gearshop (called Yukon) that the auto mutiplies your gearing by 2, due to the multiplication of the torque convertor. I knew it did something but not that much.

So if your at 75.1 standard, the auto converts it to 150.1.

Thought it was interesting and answers my question on why I felt nicely geared at 50 to 1 with my auto.

some food for...

Duh, Auto guys have known that for years. Some are greater than 2x

If you liked the gearing before, why change it?
4.10 to 5.29 is quite a jump were you hurtin on the road or looking for lower for the trail?

I've got 110:1 without factoring in the TC. :flipoff:

If everyone thought that everybody knew everything and shared nothing nobody would learn anything. As for the DUH part, I said I knew the torque converter did something but not that much.

My truck is not driven on the road its a trail truck. Problem im having is going through t-case mounts like youll be going through R&P. :)

No seriously, the tcase is trying to make up for R&P and in the process its ripped 6 sets of poly bushing in 2 years.

As for the 5.29. Im looking at 37 or 38 next year so lets do this once.

as for the 110.1 very nice, man you going to have lots of fun with that!

I hope you have good brakes!!!

:D

+1, that's a battle I am fighting right now, to pick the right stall speed, where I can still crawl at idle, but does not push through the brakes... :banghead:

Im not there yet! thats crazy gearing.!!! Id do used 4.56 but cant find any!
so why not do 5.29. :)

Im running poly bushings the 4 piece ones, then I modified them to run only 2 pieces with big washers and then modified them again. Im not going to fix the problem by stashing in a couple aluminium mounts because that flex im getting has to go somewhere else!

4:10 with 4.16.1 case and Auto and 36's dont like the polymounts! 5.29 or 4.88 it migth be.

I agree

81.1 right now and everything i have is easily replaced for under 500$
Just want to make my converter happier with the 5.29's

But if you can't stop with 48.5 and 110.7 , why have them?

:smokin:

I put in the dual case this winter specifically for the 10 deg clock. If I hadn't bought the 4.7s last year I wouldn't have them now. But hey, they are there now and gives me another option if I want it.

Yes, the converter ratio various from transmission to transmission.

In the glossy brochures Hummer says the 4L80 has a ratio of ~2.2:1.

I've read in many places that the AW4 in the XJ is effectively 1.8:1.

For your mounts, if you manage to find a solution to keep them in check make sure you do something to reinforce the transfer case itself. One of those external cradles that bolt into the case in a bunch of places may be a solution? I've been out of the Suzuki stuff for a long time; I'm not sure what all the cool kids are running these days.

Old setup with the Std came to 84:1

New setup with th350 and assuming 2:1 multiplication for TC is 107:1

Future setup with 47's, D60's with 4:56's, etc (next year) will be 119:1

;)

Too many guys that drove stick still think they need all that extra gearing with an Auto. It was the main reason for going auto for me. I had the 100:1 10 years ago but wanted the auto to make things simple. Stock engine, stock tranny, stock t-case. All things that I could pull out of a scrap yard if anything went south. I don't want to spend 800.00 on t-case gears or 3k on an Atlas or Klune. I have been running this set up for 10 years and have no issues crawling or hauling. I just pull one lever from low to high. Oh, and my stall is 1100.

That might be why your truck sounds like a tractor though :) Not saying that it does not work, cause it works good :glasses:

Not quite right but close to. The TC actually multiplies close to 2.5 on most TC. But it works only on very short range and specific RPMs, not all the time. Which is just great, becausse it works most at 0-5 km/h and with the increase of the speed it goes down to the regular 1 to 1. The down point is that if you want your high multiplication at this low speed you need to keep the RPMs relativelly high, let say about 2500, basicly mean you have to drive with the two foots - in the gas and brake pedal same time.

yes it was

And Jon it was amusing, Just had pefect timing. The rocks at night always take a victim or too!!!

As Mitko thanks for the info, so we can effectively say when im abou tto go up a cliff and I step on it the TC doubles up on my gearing until the transmission catches up with the engines RPMS
