Hey man go check out http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97676 and http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47345
The cheapest and easiest way to do it is Add-A-Leaf and Lift Shackles in the rear. and a Torsion Twist in the front. It gives you about 2" of lift all around. Couple that with body lift and you can run 33"s. The AAL and Shackles will cost you about $150 I think and the Body lift is another couple hundred.

I'm running a 97 Explorer too. I have the parts for the AAL and Shackles, just never got around to doing it this summer.

Add-a-leafs ruin the ride though. You want flex not stiff. Not for your offroad rig anyway...
Either buy a set of aftermarket rear spring or do some research as to spring lengths and widths and see what swaps from other vehicles. Ranger should be a definite bolt in and some F150 may work as well. You stock spring will flex well tho...dont discount them....you can relocate them downwards for very cheap, gain hight and maintain flex.
If you want a real off-road truck, keep he body lift to a minimum...1" can be useful for clearing drivetrain components and the like, but anymore will get you lumped in with the mall crawl crowd.
For the front....SAS is the way to go if you are serious. Otherwise whatever works....

If it were me......trim, 1" body, trim some more.....and wheel it. Once stuff starts to break upgrade it.

Cranking the torsion bars also makes a stiffer ride and wears them out early.

They ain't called Exploders for nuthin' :D

Our explorers have ass sag. So I don't think the AAL stiffens it up much compared to stock. Also I'd compromise the stiffness for the extra ground clearance.

Rangers are the same suspension set up, so replacing it with ranger springs isn't going to do much. There's a write-up on the explorer forum about how you can use the F-150 springs though. Or you could do a spring-over-axle in the rear. It's nice and cheap, more work though.

Even with a 1" body lift and trimming I don't think you'd get more than 31s to fit, without rubbing

But does it rub when the suspencion is at it's full up trsavel or flexed out? Thats when it will usually rub.

Welcome to OVO btw

Yeah 33s might fit with a TT and shackles, with some trimming...
did you say you're running right now with 1 31" tire?

lift my explorer

if ia m going to dial up my torsion bars then how far do you take them up?and also if you are going to longer shackles ,on rear, then how much longer do they need to be to allow 1.5 to 2 inches of lift?

you can crank the TT 2" max, any more and you're going to break something. Once it settles you'll see about 1.5 inches of lift in the front.
as far as the shackles go warrior makes a set, the part number is 153 I think. I think they give you about a 1.5" lift also. search the explorer forums for warrior 153 and you'll find tons of stuff.
