Lift Question

If I put a 2in shackle and spacer lift in my 88 XJ will I need to change the shocks. I am planing to put another 3.5 in next winter and I know I will have to change my shocks then so I dont want to have to change them now too.

And, if I trim the fenders will I clear 33s with the 2in of lift?

you will need to trim, quite alot. I am at about 5 to 6 inches of lift and i trimmed (quite a bit) to fit bushwackers front and rear with 33's and at full stuff i can still make contact. with only 2" of lift you will probably need to bumpstop quite a bit too.

I know on the TJ's you do not have to get new shocks when you do a 2" lift. However you do loose some flex.

If it's anything like the ZJ, you should get new shocks but can make by without.
I lifted mine 2" and kept the stock shocks, makes a squeak that it never used to but that's all.

I have 5-6" of lift and trimmed but only enough so that I moved up the factory flares and they still fit the body line and I still rubbed a bit as well. I never bumpstopped though which the guys at http://www.naxja.org/forum/ claim will allow you to run those bigger tires with minimum trimming. If you take the time to research it is one of the best sites for XJ's on the web.
I also might have a set of hydraulic Skyjacker shocks for 4" lift height that if they are still good I will sell for a good price.


Here are some pictures of the front, of course it depends on how nice you want it to look. You can see that I only really bent the inside lip in and trimmed and moved the factory flares up. I imagine if you took the time and your truck wasn't too rusty you could make it look pretty nice. I seem to take function over appearance.
