Make my LJ Faster....

I have a 1981 Suzuki LJ 80 with stock 800cc engine on 30"s. It will only do 37mph wide open on a long flat. It is gutless. I don't want to swap out the engine (yet), but would like to know if this is as fast as these things went. It is REALLY slow.

I have a 1 liter sitting in the shop, that I took out of my LJ. So it already has the proper oil pan on it. It was smokey a bit up so it needs some work. But a great motor if you throw a set of rings in it the head was already rebuilt. I also have a ceramic Bully clutch for that truck. But yes you should have no problem getting 55mph if it is running right even with 30" tires I was running 31 TSL super swampers on mine.

It doesn't smoke...doesn't use oil. Could probably use a tune up for sure. Get rid of the points with an electronic distributor. Maybe I willl check the compression as I kow the guy who had it before me didn't treat her well. It runs a long good but seems to just run out of power. It has an electric fuel pump on it & I was even suspect of it running out of fuel in the top end....but it is only an 800cc. How much fuel does it need!LOL.

Sounds like a carb problem.
