I need to brush paint a trailer I am almost finished building and it is getting too cold outside to paint. It is 26' by 8.5' by 10' high. I will bring a tarp and brushinhg, not spraying so no mess. I can bring a big propane heater to heat it, just need it to be covered - barn, shop, quansit hut, etc.

A couple cases of beer or big bottle of liquor per day? "Sorry honey, I have to drink all this beer he just gave me before it get's stale" ;-)

West end prefered.

Thanks,

Phil

The trailer is for my ultralight airplane. Wings come off with ten 1/4" bolts on each side and go into wing racks. It has an 8 foot ramp door and a v nose box 23x8.5x8 feet that will be enclosed in aluminum sheet once the upper frame is painted.

The challenge - make a trailer that big weigh less than 1600lbs!
It is built from 2x2x1/8" box steel ladde frame with cross members varrying from 18" to 2' depending on load bearing requirment for that section. There are additional box trusses at the axle mounts, tounge, and tail to make it ridgid. The upper structure is built in a trapazoid tapered from 8.5' wide at the bottom to 6' wide at the top, it is only made out of 1x1x.100" square tube on 2' centres with no diagonals or reinforcment of any kind. At this weight limit (to pull with Santa Fe) you have to be strict. The trapezoid means all parts will be in compression in the load bearing direction which eliminates the top side to side wobble you see on transport truck square trailers. Then the .032 aluminum panels will be attached with 3M VHB so that they will become structural and reinforce in the other two planes perpendicular to the frame with an infinite amount of gussets in all directions ;-)
The rear is also helped with the 8 foot trapezoidal lift gate which has three HD fabricated hinges at the bottom and two wings nuts 3/4 of the way up acts to keep the upper frame from wobbling too. So does the multi panel v-nose.

Costs: > $3500 in material.
major expenses:
trailer hardware such as axle, wheels, tires, jack tounge $900
aluminum skin $900
steel for frame $1200
fasters and 3M VHB $>400
plywood, etc.....

I finished the trailer last week under a (really big) tarp outside in my drieway.

Forgot to post pics you asked for.
