Im picking up a 1990 YJ tomorrow. Needs a motor as the 2.5L is blown. The guy has a 1996 2.5L short block. He says all that you need to swap is the heads. Can anyone confirm that or give me any other ideas? I need to get this thing rolling for wheels a churnin for as little as possible.

The 96 will be obd2 so I don't think it will be that easy.
Might be able to swap all the sensors over (maybe why he said swap the head) but it defiantly won't be a strait swap.

Ive been trying to research it, but it seems on every forum its a different story on what you have to do.

Any one got an old AMC 2.5L kicking around?

Check the head gasket, if it's the same for both I don't see why you couldn't stuff the 96' block into your beast. Another thing you should check is if your distributor will stuff into the 96' block and mesh up.

The block I got has rust in the cylinders. So I think ill just look for another motor I can just swap right in. Picked it up today. Its an 89 YJ.
