Drive past that every day, went on their website over Thanksgiving to check it out, had it listed for 10k then. Pretty cool, but too much considering at auction they go for <5k.

I can imagine that a 2.5L TD would be a little lacking in a 1.5ton. I wonder what these things weigh?

A friend of mine was decommissioning these in Pet, the frames where so bad they had to use straps to hold the pods on to drive across the base. They were the brain child of Kim Campbell, as a political statement to give jobs to BC. They weren't the lowest bid but they were the worst choice. They replaced the old Chevy pickups, top speed down hill was about 80. Like I said junk.

Ah they were used by our military, didn't know this. ^that sounds like a pretty solid negative review...I found the review below *lol* at the following link: http://www.military-today.com/trucks/lsvw.htm

"This light utility vehicle was criticized for its mechanical drawbacks, poor build quality and reliability, however much of the difficulty resulted from original specifications, as the main emphasis was stressed on fuel efficiency and low unit price. Canadian Government plans to acquire the next generation light support vehicles no later than 2011, as the LSVW was designed to perform for a twenty-year lifetime."

They say 2011 for fleet retirement, but looking quickly it looks like they are still in service, or did they get replaced...?

Interesting read here from 2009! http://army.ca/forums/index.php?topic=43074.0

"It did however, require all 10,000' of runway and a tail wind at Harmon AFB (ex) to achieve 105kph." lol

I learned a lot today...

I drove them when they were new. We had one engine catch fire while cruising down the highway at 95kph. Slow speed in the bush they worked great. All depends what you want to do with one.

i drove one for two years
they are pretty junk for highway BUT
i drove a command post with 4 people in the back aswell as communication equipment and gear, aswell as towed a HEAVY HEAVY trailer full of diesel cans and a generator. The truck performed quite well considering the extreme weight it was hauling around on a little turbo diesel. good in mostly everything but sand.

however that being said i would never spend 8k on one. id have a hard time buying one for 1k.
