Had the front shaft out of my truck , np205 sm465 combo and my son put it back in for me . I think he got side tracked and did not torque down the 4 bolts at the front flange . Long story short , within 2 weeks the bolts worked themselves out and backing out of a snowbank while plowing in 4hi , the front driveshaft let go under power at the transfer case . Playing with the shifter with the truck not moving can be hard. Sometimes the np205 just won't shift ... make sure you are in neutral, or try to inch the truck forward or back in between trying to shift. If you want to be absolutely sure the shift rails aren't damaged, disconnect the driveshafts... and the shift rails have to move together... keep the cross bar that goes between the two rails connected when you are trying to shift the rails. I used a pry bar in between the case and the linkage.

Done that . The outer most rail to the passenger side doesn't seem to want to move . Pry bar , BFH , still no go .

Only other thing I can suggest is keep playing with it. The gears will sometimes really get into a bind and it won't shift. Try turning the input shaft before/after/while trying to shift it.
