Hey guys ,

I hit a bad ass rock on the george run ... now i need to change (or fix ..) the oil pan . I call couples scrap yard for a oil pan , around 167$ ... or 380$ brand new at jeep. I am not too sure what to do with that ... right now its not leaking at all... i dont feel confidant by just putting a skid plat on it ... I mean i dont want to leave it like that.

here is a picture of the oil pan

One of the first things I did when I got my jeep was get an oil pan skid. Used it the next day and paid for itself. If you aren't leaking you may be ok. Alternatively take it off and see if it can be hammered out? Dunno to be honest if that is a good idea. Either way definitely a learning experience. Oh and for the $350 you could have got a decent cheap lift for it :)
Alternative Steering Stabilizer would be Rancho, OME or Rough Country. Hard to tell from the picture though. It looks like you dented it but is it bent?

If you post year/make/model someone may have one kicking around. That dent wouldn't have hurt the oil pump pick up from the way it looks. If it had hit the crank you would know. I don't know Jeep motors but if it has a windage tray i would be concerned about that coming loose or finding it's way up to the crank. Just my 2 cents

I wouldn't suggest trying to hammer it out. It will most likely want to warp and never want to seal again. Must be a bunch of 4.0L at kenny's. They puncture the gas tanks and trans pans to drain them. But i think the oil pans are good and they cost $12.99

Figured it would be a bad idea. Problem is he has a JK which is the V6. I think it would be the same one as the Liberty and maybe some minivans?

If it's not leaking leave it as is.
Hamering out works good as well when done properly, I've done numerous pans.
And dont try to follow me next time - I have at least 7" more ground clearance :)

Mitko is absolutely right, you can hammer it out but that is a skill that requires practice and patience. If he goes to kenny upull, he can get a pan for $13 and can see if there will be any problems when he removes his own. On some vehicles you have to raise the motor a couple inches or remove the starter etc.... He would learn how to do it without having to worry about damaging his own rig and then have his old pan to practice hammering out dents.

Check the dipstick, if the oil has not come up substantially (which I doubt it did) then you probably haven't changed the volume much and if you haven't I at that point would leave it alone.

I just ordered a new stabilizer setup from Superlift. This is actually a two shock system, but the nice part is that it relocates the shocks higher up out of the way. When doing some research I also found several different brands of 'upgrade' single shocks as well as some relocation brackets to move it out of the way. If you go to the quadratec site (click here), you can get a pretty good idea of what is available.

The 2 shock systems are overkill for Jeeps and frankly a waste of money. I would get either the Old Man Emu or Rancho if it was my choice.

Definitely not the liberty but a 3.8 caravan pan might fit but I think it holds less oil and i think the oil pick up hole in the windage tray is different. Have you tried pulling the drain plug out yet? Looks like the pan got pretty pinched :/

I have not tried to drain the oil. ... Altough i spoke with national 4wd and i found an eassy fix : they have founded a lower oil pan of a jeep jk for 70$ plus shipping so i will go with that and keep the other one for a spear.
As per the stering stabilasizer its defitnitly broken. ... So i ordered a new one in same time... I should get out of it for 200$...

Mitko i noted the advice :)

This is a hard one. You will eventually need to drain the oil - presuming you can get the plug out (then back in). If it were my jeep, I would take the pan off and make sure the pickup / pump isn't damaged. I would then replace it with a sturdier (after-market) pan, or a stock pan and skid plate.
