So today i was hiking the local trail when i came across a group of guys wheel in the trail. the trail is clearly mark no motorized vehicles. And they were wheeling ten feet from the sign. What do you? I talked to them, explained to them that it's bad for the sport. They could care less about what i was trying to say.

So do i call the police?

The part that bothers me the most is that they aren't local guy's they are from Hawksbury and La Chute. Which means the local guys will be...

I agree, if the authorities want to take us seriously that we are being responsible and want to maintain the trails not just tear them up, then we need to be. By letting them get away with it the next trail we lose will be partially our fault. Right now I would at the least contact the police and give them the most detail I can, i.e makes, colours, and even first names if you happened to catch it. This will at least get filed

I say this because I hate losing trails to idiots who don't care about anything about their immediate gratification.
I don't really consider these guys fellow wheelers as if they were at all true wheelers they would know the situation we are in with trail loss and not jeopardize all possible wheeling in the area for what they consider their right to have fun.

There's an old saying that goes like this:

All trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again....

Next time? I would still be calling. Granted you can't give them much but it at least gets reported and they may keep an eye out for the d-bags.

I would be hesitant to call the police on any wheeler to be quite honest, but for me, after having the situation explained to them and then to have a crappy attitude about it probably would have swayed me to report them. It's one thing to plead ignorance and another to blatantly disregard the law and common courtesy and propogate the already tarnished view some people have towards our sport. D-bags for sure .

if there is a matter of safety involved, yes definatly call cops.
if its another matter of tresspassing, well then let the bylaw officers handle lthere business.
not trying to start a war hear just saying.

so the question i have, is if you call the cops. do you think it helps us or hurts us as a whole? the cops don;t care who they are, or if they are local, or travelers, or in a club or alone. they care someone is where they shouldn't be, and creates a bad rap for the rest of us. I hate people who have no regard, and make our challenges worse, but at same time, i think having guys with big trucks caught keeps the stereotype going that we are all bad. vs. helping the cause by weeding out the bad apples..

I do agree with Marek, give the people the chance but if they don't abide then report them. I don't agree with not doing anything, if we do nothing then someone will come across the tracks and make that assumption anyways. If we at least report it means we are at least doing something.
