Portable Air compressors

Does anyone know where in Ottawa (area) I might be able to find a shop that sells Viair compressors? I am actually looking for one of their 24v models and I would like to avoid shipping if I can.

Just bought a VIAIR 450P from quadratec. Picking it up today in fact from UPS store in Ogdensburg. Shipping was roughly $8.
The closest dealer I found was in Smith Falls and he wanted 25% more than the price I paid in the US.

25% of what though? 25% of $100 is 25 bucks, between gas, bridge and time, it may make sense to buy local. 25% of $500, ok, different story. YMMV.

Thanks! They have the 450C-24v too.

The trick to Ogdensburg and picking up "toys" is you coordinate a trip with your wife so she does some grocery shopping. :smokin:

I am just allergic to paying brokerage fees - such a scam, really. I agree your point, though, the $ need to make sense.
Might be able to work this as an excuse to buy more toys - make the trip worthwhile. :glasses:

You don't pay brokerage fees when you have an item shipped within the US (UPS or otherwise). Brokerage is for Customs related items. So, shipping to the UPS store will only cost you the tax on the item when you come back across the border..., plus $5 to the store for them to receive it. The best part about Ogdensburg is some guys on eBay won't ship to a PO box, so the UPS store allows you to provide your name on their store address, plus their own website to say your item is there.

I did call about the 24v compressor, and it is $230 more than the same item bought in the US. Tax will be paid on both, but shipping is also cheaper in the US (sometimes free). My time is valuable, as is gas, so I will crunch the numbers and see what works out.

I have bought a couple things from Brad at Nat4x4 and both times it was a good experience.

I currently rent a "suite" (aka box) at the UPS store, so my packages are received for free. I do enough buying from the US that it makes it worthwhile. Otherwise the UPS store charges $5/week per package. Having just picked up 11 boxes, I saved another $55 today.

You are correct, brokerage is only paid when a courier (and sometimes USPS) imports the package for you. As individuals, we do not pay brokerage for items imported for personal use. Also, when you get packages shopped from the US, brokerage is charged for each tracking number (not shipment). Before I had the UPS box, I bought some rock rails and the OE shipped two boxes as a single shipment. UPS charged me $55 brokerage FOR EACH BOX. That's what I'm allergic to.

One thing to note - as an OVO member, you have the option of getting access to the OVO box at the UPS store in Ogdensburg for $10 a year, unlimited packages. Another perk to becoming a member.

Good to know....working on the membership. I got to see a 12v 450c at the Safety course this weekend and it is a nice unit!
