Question on suspension stretch on TJ's

When doing a stretch on long arms, is the stretch accomplished all with lengthening the actual arms or does one also move the location of the CA frame mounts back (Or forward depending on the location of the stretch) in conjunction with longer arms?

My suspicion tells me it's all in the lengths of the arms but am not 100 % sure on this.

You would do both to maintain good suspension geometry. Play around with the 4 link calculator and see what it would do if you left the mounts in the stock location.

Take a look at the stretch kit from Genright. I don't know if they have downloadable instructions, but even pictures should give you an idea of what they do for the rear stretch on a TJ. Are you thinking rear only or front too?

Till Valhalla!
when we did Chads rear stretch we downloaded a template from the Clayton offroad (i think) site as to where to cut the frame and then built all our own brackets and got the coil buckets from TMR. We 4 linked it but put the link brackets right where they would have been even if we didn't stretch it (TJs are so short!) and built the links to suit.

Thanks Brad/Marek.

I suspect there must be a threshold point whereby you need to start moving the brackets, otherwise you'll have 48" long arms!!

I picked up a fully built TJ frame from a fab shop in MA m( http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/misc-stuff-sale/1103883-modified-02-tj-frame.html) and based on discussions, the location of the brackets are stock to a regular long arm setup but he was running:

Rear lowers - 33 3/4"
Rear uppers - 38 1/2"

Front upper - 34 1/2"
Front lowers - 34 1/2

If i recall, there's about a 5" stretch in the rear and 2-3" in the front
