Although there have been many online arguments over the years in different forums on which axle to lock first i think if you're going to do one then do the rear first, after all that is the axle that sees the most use/stress in climbing something. There is no doubt that both axles should be locked for offroading your rig but if you're planning on replacing the front axle then looking at a cheap temporary option just maybe the aussie (someone else with better knowledge of those can chime in here).

I am a big fan of ARB. I have been running ARBs for years and love them for the beating they can take. There is a reason a large number of the ultra 4 and KOH cars run them - quality and durability. They are not cheap - but i've always believed you get what you pay for. Every once in awhile ARB puts on a sale in which if you buy a locker you get a free compressor, sometimes that's offered in the spring.

Gear installs aren't cheap, i know of a shop though that if you supply the ring and pinion and install kit charges around $300 an axle, the best bang for you buck would be to find someone who could do it for you.

post some pics of you rig, would love to see it!

Well in upstate ny i would jump on a "qualified" person installing my gears and lockers for 300 per axle. The best price i can find is about 600 per axle so point me in the direction of the 300$ guy. There aren't many others who really jeep in the area i live in my jeep is pretty much built up more than most in the area excluding a few mall crawlers who have shiney rims and don't know what a locker is. but ya in all seriousness let me know a good mechanic up there that would charge me 300 per axle and i would check them out.

what you'd need to keep in mind is that i'm located about a 3 hour drive from the border and depending on where you are in NY the fuel for the trip plus the cost of accomodations start to eat away at any savings, not to mention if you thought gas prices where bad down there - wait till you see how expensive it is here!

a much shorter drive would be the Dan at National 4wd in Smith Falls, maybe contact him and see what they can do.

Do you daily drive your jeep? If you do then an auto locker like an aussie might not be the best for the front. I had one in my jeep d30 but I never winter drove it. I heard that it could be sketchy.
That being said I loved that locker and it was very strong. Never had am issue with it and makes for a great temp/cheaper option.
I agree with Marek about the arb's. They seem to be an awesome product.
Viair I have always wanted. They seem to have a better set up for compressors with the tank and all.
