I have a 2000 tj, sounds like the stering box has finally bit it, any suggestions what i should go with?? i herd a durango box is a bit stronger and a direct bolt in, but am open to more sudgestions!!!
is it any stronger/better any draw backs, what years should i look for 4x2 4x4 ar 4x4 taped for a plow??? and if you dont mind me askin how much did it run you???
I believe 98-99 4x4 or the plow one are the ones you want. The TJ is notorious for developing leaks. The Durango is not. Also I think the plow one has a tighter turning radius. I didn't see a difference in turning. You can see the difference in size when they are right next to each other. The Durango is about 1/2" - 1" wider but will still fit in a steering box skid.
I think it was around 280 + 150 core charge. It may be worthwhile keeping the old one, rebuilding it and then either keeping it as a spare or selling it off.
Yeah, kind of a bad thing to do as it can screw the system. If I had somewhere to keep it I probably would have kept it as a spare. Plus at that time I needed the cash. Most places won't do take a different steering box though.
