Factory bumpers are designed to absorb impact. Arb style ones won’t.

The section you are looking at for body’s refers to cargo body’s ie pick up boxes, cube trucks etc.

Well Mike, that’s exactly what I mean by the rules being up to interpretation, this was copied from the passenger/light duty section. If there’s another section more passenger specific please post it up for us.
Energy absorption and being pedestrian friendly are understandable factors for sure, (also designed into frame ends, subframes and unibody design) but those are again interpretations of what’s written and not specific. It may be that the MTO meant to say “only perfect condition factory/OEM designed 5mph bumpers are allowed” but they didn’t. They used the term “inferior” then in brackets defined what they meant.

I don’t mean this to be an argument, merely my thoughts on how it seems they’ve left things up to interpretation.

Cheers!
Simon
