Wow.


Surprised at the little amount of heat applied.
Will have to look up pyrolysis.

So it's not the applied heat that causes the tire to blow. It's the pressure created by the gasses released during the decomposition of the tire. The heat is merely the catalyst.

Interesting...makes wish I'd have delved deeper into chemistry.

When I was working heavy equipment mechanic we had some pictures from a diamond mine in Africa of a guy who torched off some wheel lugs on a Scoop Tram... Tire is an OTR and about 6' in diameter... He aired it down and pulled the valve core but still due to this reaction it blew off the retainer and the tire... All that was left was a splatter mark on the wall... No body to recover.
