To synch or not to synch?

I'm going to be rebuilding a sami tranny that I know has bad bearings but as far as I know still has good synchros. The cheap-ass side of me is opting to go for the kit w/o synchros which costs $40usd less, whereas the wise side of me thinks I should just drop the extra coin since I don't know 100% whether they're good or not (I'm at about 75% certainty they are) plus since I'm going to have it out and apart anyways I might aswell go all out (my lazy side has a little something to do with it...

It is defiently worth doing the synchros. There are two parts in a tranny that get the most wear. The synchros and the bearings. Since you will be already pressing off the gears and removing the synchros to replace the breaings, might as well replace the synchros while your their. You don't want to be doing the same job twice.

You'll already have it apart, $40US is not worth you having to take it apart later.

I had pretty much talked myself into it while composing the original thread, but I've now committed. Just ordered the kit with the synchs.
As Matt and Mike both said, I'm going to have it out and apart why not do it all once.
I'd feel like a real dumbass if I went through all that trouble just to realize they aren't as good as I thought. I'd prolly end up driving with it for a while in total denial "I'm sure it'll get better soon, uhh, ya":banghead: NO THANKS!

So thanks for the input guys.

I'm all about smooth shifting and minimal work. Synchs it is.

No it was a $60 difference in price. Altogether it came up to $156 canadian incl. shipping. Worth the price difference for piece of mind though.

I was kidding. but for the record, I rarely use the clutch when on the street in my samurai. on the trail, is another story. and my name is spelt Szabo :flipoff:
