Are the 79-83 3rd members the same as the 85?

Also, did the 79-83's come with 4.10's?

The flange has smaller bolt holes and different bolt pattern, but can be re-drilled for the newer driveshaft no problem... and Yes, they did come with 4:10's...

I have one in the front of my truck...

79-83 came with 3.90's and 4.11's to be exact lol :glasses: I pretty sure the pinion flanges are marked in colour codes. yellow, green, red and possibly more? all I know is 4.11 is the yellow.

according to 4x4wire.com

"4.38s only available in 1980, 3.90s only available in 1981, 8" drums."

as Adrian said the bolt circle of the flanges changes, but the flanges exchange, ie. same spline count on the pinion.

And there are aftermarket flanges available which have both bolt patterns.
