Anybody know the difference between a 297/760 u-joint and a 1310? I know the former is for axle shafts and the latter is for driveshaft (double cardans), but they're the same size?

Are the interior different?

And just so you get a larf out of this, I had to do an emergency u-joint swap on a driveshaft, and when I went to grab the one joint I had left, the box was so dirty I couldn't read the part numbers.

I measured and it seemed to be the same size, and went in ok.

Should I be...

297 and 760 are the same size. 760 is spicers hd joint. It is solid with no grease fitting.

Thanks, I knew the 760 was a beefier 297. But I was trying to compare 1310 to a 297(or 760).

If you are saying a 1310 has the same dimensions as a 297/760x I am surprised because I actually just did this. I had the HD AC-Delco's which I believe is a 1310 that I use for my drive shafts to my D44 which I believe is the same u-joint a D35 uses . Anyway they are the same size as a 267 which is the old little shafts YJ's and XJ's used but the 267 is a inner c-clip and the HD AC-Delco (1310?) is an outer clip as it is an axle.

Should I be expecting to replace it again soon, if it was indeed a 297?

:p

I believe its the C clips if I remember correctly. Not first hand experience but from what I've read one is Inner c-clips and the other is outer.

Hmmm.....nope just checked, the u-joint that fits a D35, D44 and D30 Yoke also fits into a "small" axle shaft, the 297 but the clip style is different.

Turns out, that although I thought I had axle u-joints, I had driveshaft u-joints from the get go. Outer clips on the two sets. Been awhile since I changed the u-joints on my old D30 (I forgot I did).

I bought them all (both kinds) at the same time for spares on the trail. They've been sitting there for a few years.

I just had to take apart the front D30 on the ZJ, and sure enough, inner clips.

Thanks, guys.
