Well, I've done a search, (nothing came up) and actaully searched all threads for something on the topic, I was sure I saw something last year posted on this topic but can't seem to find anything......so can anyone recommend someone to do a vehicle appraisal?? I am hoping they can come here to look at it rather than me trying to get it to them.....(it's just for the MTO fawkers who don't let you register a vehicle 20 yrs and older without one these days, thanks to everyone cheating the...

Are you sure about this?

What if you just tell them that it's a piece of shit and worth nothin, will they then list the value at 1$ or whatever?

If I see me neighbor I'll ask her, she works at St-Laurent MTO...

Doesn't the shop up the road from you do them? I can't remember the name, turn right and head for Kars?

They dont care is it a piece of sh*t or a custom restored colector car - went through this couple of years ago trying to register my 'ol Landcruiser. No aprisal - no plates, thats what the b***h behind the counter said, luckily I had some conections back than and got it aprised for $ 150.

I just remembered another place. If you go into Kempville from North Gower there is a shi*y little car dealer on the right before you get to the main lights. Their sign says "Vehicle Apprasals $50", not sure how official they are though.

Yup, 20 years or older needs and appraisal to change owner...just another money grab. :pissed:

any used car dealer is able/licensed to do this.

Just go to any dealership and bring your MTO paper and they'll sign it for free. We've done this on several occasions already

Hmmm....dealers around here aren't that friendly.....never thought of it actually...I ended up going down the road to Majestic Auto Restorers and for $50 they did it for me....will have to try the dealership thing for the next one....the only problem being for me is, the vehicles needing the appraisals usually aren't licenced for the road and getting them there would be sketchy...(not like I haven't done it before...lol). Thanks for the tip Mike!!

How does that work if you buy a 20+ year old junker and do a lot of work on it to make it road worthy etc. You should only have to pay tax on what you bought. not what it is worth after all your work.

I registered my 87 Sami last month and the MTO office never asked for an apraisal. I just paid tax on the $300 written on the bill of sale.

well consider yourself lucky, cuz this is the third time in two years I've been nailed with this appraisal nonsense....and twice now it was at the Licence Bureau in Kemptville and once at the one at Westgate...so the excuse of "go to the country and you'll have an easier time" does NOT apply here....

I second that. Tried to see if I could get away without it at the MTO office in Moose Creek with no luck. Doesn't get more country then that.:(

I thought they charged based upon the book value in their computer?

Has this changed?

Older than 20 years is not in their "books" anymore. And they may think that vehicles may start to apreciate as the get older, like a clasic car. And ofcourse if its worth something our goverment wants its cut. :pissed:

I had to get an "appraisal" done on my 87 Yj, even after I told the lady at MTO that it was unfit/ a project. She in turn told me that this way they get the "proper" amount of tax from the sale.... So I went to a local dealership to see a buddy and he filled out the appraisal form, He gave me an appraisal value of what he would give me if I were trying to trade it in...250$
