Very nice, but pricey  I would worry about having an AX-5 behind all that torque, they should have used an AX-15 or stronger.

Very encouraging, when my 283 dies I will be trying a swap like this. A little more 'home grown' though I am sure. And more than likely with a Pre-intercooled Tdi.....ok it turns out after spending some time under the hood of my mk3 that it is intercooled too.....I'll just have to use a shoe horn when I attempt to put it under the hood...many years down the road.

Very cool.

HHmm...IIRC the Jeep AX5 and the Toyota W56 have the same bolt pattern on the trans, so this bell housing should work to drop a VW disel into a Toy.....just what I have been looking for.

IIRC there is a kit already for this swap in the market (mean VW -> toyota)

Mitko, is the OM603 really as bad as everyone makes it out to be?

OM 603 is a common designation for three engines - 3.0 NA, 3.0 TD and 3.5 TD.
3.0 in both forms is a beautiful engine, simple and reliable, this is what I had (TD) with zero problems.
3.5 is the one to avoid and the one who makes the bad name.
3.0 TD is my favourite engine ever, would personally swap it in anything.
Now, there is also a 606 engine family, although different story.
IMHO 617 is not worthed the efforts, too underpowered although can virtually run forever.
If you need more info LMK.

I guess it is the 3.5TD that I've heard about (W126 chassis).

What are practical, reliable power levels for a modified 3.0TD?
