Wanted: tire carrier draw latch

I'm in the process of building a swing out tire carrier for my sami & was wondering where I could find a draw latch to hold it closed. I've called all the places I can think of in the Ottawa area but haven't had any luck... (Trebor, Traction, TSC, Home Hardware, Crappy Tire, Capital Truck Bodies)

Spoke to a fella at Capital Truck Bodies who was a bit of a douche but I'm thinking they might have some. He didn't want to take the 30sec to hear what I was looking for & just recommended coming...

I think the big issue with that type of latch is there is no way of making sure it does not come unlatched at an inopportune time which is usually when it happens. There are some good threads on JeepForum about bumpers with Tire Carriers and what people have done to address.

I have a tire carrier and all the latches etc off of my parts pathfinder you can have i dont know if it would help, it just bolts through the body into threaded holes in the body but maybe the parts could be customized?

I'd wheel it
Josh, I picked up a spring loaded latch from Princess (I think it's a fence latch of some kind) that I was going to use on mine. It's not quite as bling as the one in your picture but I think it would do the trick. If you're around on the w/e you should stop by and I'll show it to you. If you think it'll work for you you can use it if you replace it.

My Bulletproof Mfg carrier came with a similar one but it worked at 90 degrees. Check this site at Day 11. It's one of the easiest latches to use and doesn't rattle. That tire carrier has been on some rough trails and the latch never let go. Here's one place that sells it.

The trade name for these latches is "de-sta-co" clamps. On the Internet try mcmaster Carr. If you want local Ottawa fastener should have them. If they don't I have a few other options but I would have to get you contact info. They are used alot in machining and fabrication for jigs and fixtures. If you check mcmaster Carr you could see a pretty good selection. There are also ones that have a safety lock on them so they don't come undone at the in opportune time. Different sizes for different loads. Straight draw/push. 90* draw. Straight down clamp......I am sure you get the idea there is quite a selection! I was just looking at them yesterday in the KBC catalog too they are a mail order tool/equipment supply outfit out of TO I believe.
