I have a stock Jeep TJ that I'll be taking up to Calabogie this weekend :)woot!! counting the days...)..

I need to replace the tires. The tires on there currently are P225-75R16

I was speaking to a forum member here (Matt) who has 31" on his.

I called Bensons and he recommended I put GoodYear SilentArmor 265/70/16s on it. He first said (265/31101515 ?) but then thought those would not fit.

These tires are rated as Trail/Snow worthy which is something my current tires suck at.

He's...

I am not familiar with that tire so I can't comment on them, but if you are looking for a good all round tire that you can live with every day on the street as well as wheel occasionally, then I would definately recommend BFG All Terrains. I have had them on my wifes Grand for almost 80,000 km and have held up really well and are great in snow. I have never wheeled her Jeep with these tires but I know many people that have wheeled with these tires and they work good. They are a great all around tire.

As for price, all I can say is to shop around as prices vary greatly from one place to the next.

The General Grabber AT2's Jen mentioned got higher reviews than the BFG A/Ts, but were almost half the price. We haven't tried them yet, as the current Jeep came with brand new tires.

Hey Jabba,

I would stay away from the goodyears. As far as what i read they are not as good as the BFG's or the Generals.

You can fit a 31 with a little rub at full lock and full articulation. That is on the stock rims. It is not enough to do damage to the fenders. So i say you are safe with a 31 with minor rubbing and 30 without any rubbing (sahara's came with 30's). My 2" lift cost me under $300 with 4 new longer shocks for better articulation and was super easy to install. It can be done in a few hours.

The new BFG M/t KM2's seems like a really nice tire. Like i told you the Trxus is an amazing tire. Strongest and best radial out there for the money but wears fast. So I would recommend in your case go with the BFG allterrain, General Grabber, or BFG Mud Terrain KM2. And i would go with a 31.

There is no such thing as "one fit all" especially talking tires. If they are good on mud, they will suck on highway. If they are good on highway they will suck offroad... and so on. So what the main purposse of the tire use will be?
The one which is so so at both worlds is BF AT, best priced at Costco. Pass by my store and check Bridgestone Revo, you might like them aswell (beside the price).
About the size - 31/10.50/15 is your max with no mods. The similar P metric size is 265/75/15.

When the KM2 came JeepForum started getting feedback. The KM2s look a lot cooler than the old KMs but it sounds like the old KMs do better in Mud. What Mitko is saying is bang on. Mud tires are great in mud and deep snow due to their clearing capabilities but they suck donkeyballs on ice. If you are planning on using it as a DD in the winter, try and get one that has the snowflake and mountain on it. I am pretty sure the BFG ATs do on most sizes (not sure about the grabbers).

Or get a set for summer and a set for winter. Benefit in this is it cuts down on wear and tear thus keeping your tires lasting longer and you can get tires that are designed for what you need. I bought winter tires and never had a problem.

Thanks for the responses folks. Those BFG AT look sweet. Priced them out at Costco at $174 each. They couldn't get them in until next week and would not install a tire that would rub...

The General Grabber AT2 look good as well. But were priced at 195 installed at Deals 4 Wheels...

Mitco, where is your store?

They won't install them on your vehicle, but they will install them on the rim

Check this before showing up with wheels. My understanding is that CostCo won't mount tires that were not purchased at their store. They changed this last season.

Sucks because it was a pretty good deal. IIRC ~$50 out the door for a set of four. We used to use them for getting racing tires mounted. Now I use Deal4Wheels in Kanata. They are good, probably one of the cheaper, more convenient places in town that still do it. I had a bunch of tires mounted this spring and it was $75 for four (one set of Rs and one set of "regular" street tires).

I was referring to buying the tires at costco. They will not install them on the vehicle but they will mount them on your rims if you bring them to 'em. (I did this a few years ago)
