Winch cable repair?

Anyone know what it takes to replace the ring on a winch cable that attaches the cable to the winch drum? Mine broke. I assume you cut off the cable right before the old ring and put a new one on. What do I use to cut it off (an angle grinder ok)? And where do I find a new ring? Is there any company in the east end that can do it? I don't mind dropping it off in the morning at some point and picking it up after work.

Wrap some electrical tape around the cable to prevent from untwisting, cut with the angle grinder and use battery cable end. Like this:
