i made my own plate and had my flywheel sent out. i found pdf's on the dimensions on yotatech. also i adapted my diesel to a toyota tranny. from all i read, 1.9's will grenade your sammi tranny. the kick tranny may be a better option but would be just as much fabrication to fit as it would be to go yota. and yota has better aftermarket support for tcase gears and doublers, not to mention a lower 1st gear ratio. diesel has it's pros and cons but with the aftermarket surrounding the VW TD's those cons can be pros depending how much money u throw at it.

my TD is stock and as long as it's in its spool range it'll perform like a stock 1.6 8valve but i find i can't shift fast enough on uphills to keep the turbo spooled on upshifts. otherwise, i have yet to stall it and love the extra torque. if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I'd love to see some pics of your rig Szabo if you don't mind posting

i'll see what i can dig up for pics but i don't think i took pics of the adapter and flywheel. another note, there may be some oil pan modifications depending on lift, in my case i only have a 3" suspension lift from stock and modified the framerails to take more uptravel. technically the axle would hit but i moved if forward enough just to clear

One very important aspect is to make sure there will be no oil starvation at any vehicle angle. Those engines despite their longevity can be easily ruined when run on low oil pressure even for a short period of time. One must take into consideration the fact that this engine is engineered and built for transverse mounting; hence the oil pan and oil pick-up modification requirement.
I 'think' I mentioned you all those things when we spoke at SF Mike.

yup and although i haven't modified the pan or pickup i did install an OP gauge. i have had the truck at near vertical ascents without much pressure drops but i haven't wound the engine up to induce starvation either one other thing to keep an eye on is the timing belt, these are interference motors

It is also important to use an diesel approved engine oil. There is a difference between spark ignition and compression ignition oils.
