Portable Air compressor recommendations?

I was thinking of getting the thing that Simon had at the Gorge which had the guage and kept the core inside. It's about $24 US. Haven't seen them around here where I could get one.

I have never lost one by it flying away. I suppose it could happen though. Carry a few spare cores, they are cheap or even free as tire shops throw them out all the time, just ask for a handful.

I did just order a set of Stauns from PJF, 0-15 psi, $86 IIRC. And I carry a valve core remover as seating a bead is much easier with the core removed.

Valve core removers at like $3 at princess for a pack of 2 and i got a pile of valve cores you can have if you want. And like Dirk said, good luck seating a bead with the valve core in.

I used to have 2 valves on my rims, one with a core and one without. The one without was for airing down or airing back up very fast, and had a sealing cap. While airing down I had a gauge locked on the valve with core so I could keep an eye on the pressure. But this requires you to add the core to your rims, something to think about next time you have the tires dismounted.

But when I installed the Staun internal beadlocks it didn't allow for 2 valves so I bought the Staun deflators. It's slower overall and they can only be set to one pressure, but you just put them on and forget about them until they're done. I have them set to the pressure I normally like to wheel with and if I want to go lower I do it the old fashioned way.

Well I am working around the corner now from Princess Auto, I may just hop over there tomorrow and pick some out. Initial impressions of the air compressor? I can use it as a weapon in a zombie attack. Pretty hefty. Waiting for a warm enough day to try it out. Maybe I will deflate one of my tires and see how it works. Not as loud as I expected.

Keep the unit inside during the winter...equipment always works better if not frozen...(and by that I mean allowed to remain at a temp below 0 for any length of time). Don't forget to bring it out to the Feb meeting....if it's not too cold out to freeze our hands we could have an "air-up" test...your's against the Masterflow unit! (can you tell I'm bored??)

So I went to PA and picked up a little 4in1 tool that has the valve core remover for $1.99 and 5 cores. May give the compressor a try this weekend since it looks to be getting warm

I contacted Duncan about the connector to the valve stem and took some pictures. He immediately sent out a new hose. There was definitely something wrong with the old one. Tested out the new one yesterday and it worked perfectly!

That's cool. I've had this compressor since last year and works perfectly. Fast too.

It runs pretty hot though. Have you burned yourself on it yet?

Nope but then again I have only done 1 tire at a time. I may replace the carrying case with a bag. The hard case seems is a good idea but it can be more of a pain than just stuffing it into a small duffle.

yes but the hard case will protect it more.
