as Phillips head impact wrench (no.3 if that matters)?

I'm tired of destroying the regular ones (gotta love CT's return policy though). After going throgh 3 of them I've decided to see if the proper tool actually exists.

If so, where can I get them?

Scott has an impact driver, that takes impact grade bits. You smack it with a hammer and it gives a good shot to the screw. Trying to remove body screws on a Sami tub by chance? LoL That's where his gets the most use. Probably buy one at PA.

the kind that you smack with a hammer is prolly a better way than an impact but if you'd rather go that route, it'd be nice to know that the hammer style impact bit is a 1/2" driver and should fit on the end of an impact or any 1/2" socket for that matter

I think my father actually has one of those. I originally poo-pooed it thinking there was no way it would measure up to power tools but since a couple of you have mentioned it I might give it a try. Now to get the broken bit out of the head of that last one (might just weld a nut on that one).

As you just mentioned, if you have no intenet on saving the screws, welding a nut may be the best, the heat will certainly help.

If you are trying to save the screws, the "smack them with a hammer" style will be alot better than power driven. Since the hammer driven only does one shot at a time, the chances are slim that you'd strip the head. With a power driven style, if it slips onec, the head will be pooched.

I'd also try a cordless impact driver before I'd try air or electric. Much more control and not as strong either.

Any industrial tool supply should have the bits you are looking for. Ottawa Fastener or similar.

I usually put the bit and adapter from the impact driver in my 1/2 inch impact, works great. Smack or Snap-Off will have a 3/8 or 1/2 drive large phillips "sockets". I think I paid $11 for my impact driver at Princess, it seems to work great!

These are all great but save yourself the trouble, go buy a small tourch kit (yellow and red bottle) at CT... You'll never get them all out any other way.
