So, get this for a stupid fucking backup policy. They do not restore backups if you make a mistake, but, if they have a server problem they will do a restore. Does that make any fucking sense?

I could see them not doing it for free, but even for a fee?

I am so fucking tired of 1and1. I just installed a new php app so we can more easily upload pictures by people. Well, just like Gallery, it fucking quits after uploading about 13 pictures. WTF. It's gotta be 1and1, the same script works perfectly fine on my server. 1and1 blows dead donkey dicks.

They didn't even offer. Said "sorry sir, it's in the terms and conditions" and kicked me off the phone, I was less then polite with the 2nd call. Fucking idiots. Some fucking customer service.

I USED to use 1&1 as well. They suck arse...

Look into Bluehost. Been with them for about 5 yrs now... Been very happy and price is reasonable.

The only reason I use 1&1 is because we have 4 sites, and 1&1 is the only provider that includes 3 domains free. If you're only running 1 site, there are tons of other options.

I don't mean to sound like an ass saying this... salt in the wound and all that. I am sensitive to what you are feeling right now... save this as an item to think about when setting up again...

but...

Never, ever trust your ISP to do your backups.

In fact, never trust anyone that doesn't have a vested interest in the data to do the backups.

rsync, specifically rsnapshot.org for ease and a scripted approach... Set up your ssh keys and drive the backup from a cron job on a host elsewhere. Don't forget your mysql/postgress dump's.

Once you have the initial sync done the bandwidth required is trivial to keep a valid backup. We have three accounts with 1and1 and this is how we backup.

Yes, that will be my approach, will rsync to my server at home. Fucking goof's at 1and1.

And backup everything including the forum. Don't want to loose all this info like OJC did :(

But still, if 1and1 is so bad let's check into alternatives. We're supposed to be having fun with our trucks, not managing a website all the time.

All files (not directories) under ovo.ca/

So, many, many .html pages. If the index.html pointed to anything in a subdirectory under ovo.ca then it still exists.

Always had good service when I ran a company on Peer1. You can get a server from Serverbeach. Haven't heard anything about them but being that they are directly owned by Peer1 I would think the service would be excellent aswell
