Hey guys,

I am new to the forum, and plan on joining in on my first trail ride with the crew later this month.

I am new to the Ottawa area and unfortunately for me I now live in an appartment, 5+ hours away from my tools. :banghead:

I need to change my diff fluids & check the tranny fluid, however i dont feel like buying yet another socket set / drain pan / large allen key set to get the job done.

Is there someone who wouldn't mind lending me their tools/driveway for a couple hours one...

Got the tools for you but no driveway. Someone will offer it up I'm sure.

I'd be happy to come by and help though.

Thanks IH, 30 mins is a lot better than 2.5 hours!

Mud Lite, that sounds like a good idea. Hopefully it will happen again sometime.

At this time of year, a heated shop would be nice or in a laneway in the late spring. Compressors, torches, press and the right tools are always a good thing.

I would consider renting space for a shop, idealy with one or two other like minded folks who don't have space where they live. Nothing too big, just big enough to store my other toys and tools.

For years I have concidered renting a space for a club co-op type garage. The concerns I had was proper use of tools, liability issues, equallity for all members, over use of privlages, loss of tools, missuse of consumables.......

It is a great idea, you just have to keep the numbers workable for all concerned. We have friends in TO that bought a condo unit between 6 of them. It can also be looked at as an investment.

I agree with you that a "club" garage is probably too risky. The more people with access, the less safe i would feel about leaving thousands of dollars of tools around let alone my vehicles.

But for 2-4 people it would be great provided these people are trustworthy, and able to contribute equally and on time (rent)

Logan's my hero lol. But I wasn't about to volunteer your shop.

-----------------

If there are 2-4 people who feel like investing in a small shop and we could get a Mechanic to service other people's vehicles it could offset the cost for parties involved. We would need the same insurance either way so we might as well have a couple customers at the same time. Since the primary function is for OVO guys use we could have one bay with a hoist for customer cars and 2-3 other bays just for tools and rides.

Those who wish to use those open bays could pay a set amount per month and they can work on their vehicles without worrying about -40 out side and if need be they can put it up on a hoist.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if we have those people who are storing their vehicles there listed as "installers" on the books then they are able to work on their own vehicles but not customer ones unless they have their mechanics license.

Just the storage alone would pay for many of the expenses of the shop and we probably wouldn't need to have too many customers vehicles in the shop which means we would be ok with 1 bay for customers.

The other option if we follow this line of thinking is 1 bay for customers, 1 bay for working on your vehicles but we have storage for vehicles out doors. All we would have to do is store your vehicle out side the shop and bring it in when you want to work. this would be harder to coordinate with the paying members but would cut down costs significantly.

That was from a business side. There's always other ways of doing this but I thought we could think about that. I'd be happy to run the books.

Definitely some good points to discuss about the club shop idea, it would be awesome if we could pull it off.

Anyways thats would be sweet if i could head over to logans for a couple hours this weekend?

I think its supposed to rain tomorrow so id like to be indoors but hey beggers can't be choosers right!

Thank you very much IH for the offer, if Logan is busy or something this weekend I will take you up on it for sure :)
