I liked the scout too but out of all of them I liked the FJ40 the best.

I prefer Nitro myself. The whine of the electric motor does nothing for me, the nitro motor, now that's something else. My MT2 is getting a full rebuild and upgrades this winter. She's a hurting old girl.

Very nice. A couple locals are starting to do trail run videos with scalers. We're even planning a TTC, should be good cheap entertainment.

So what's the easiest way to get into this stuff? Approximate costs? Resources to grok?

Xmas is coming... :)

Works really good for out of the box:

Any you can get any body you want for it. I am on a list for a 1st gen 4runner body right now :)

Cost for new you can get by with $500 total if you go with a RTR (Ready To Run) kit which includes the radio and motor, then buy batteries and charger. But like the full scale you'll be quickly spending a lot more :D

Local forum: http://www.rcottawa.com specifically the Crawlers section which is being used more by scalers recently. Watch for trail runs and go spectate.

Visit some local hobby stores: Dynamic Hobbies (Collonade), Discount Hobbies (Orleans), or Hobby 2000 (Gatineau). Yeah it's far for you but it's nice to see stuff first hand before you buy.

I actually almost ordered the ax10 last friday. I'm kinda torn between that one or the Venom Like Richards. I was also looking at the Losi. The Nice thing about the Axial Ax10 is it's a RTR though. Where did you order yours from? Richard, what do you recomend? What have you heard about the Losi Buggies?

All depends what you're going for.

The Axial does come in a RTR which gets you going faster and cheaper. The AX10 has been around longer and is the most popular so parts and aftermarket support is abundant. They also have a ARTR (Almost RTR) which lacks the electronics but does come with some upgraded components so many consider this better if you're going to compete.

For me part of the fun is to build my trucks and that's one reason I got the Creeper. It also has selectable lockers which is fun for a scaler, but not really useful for competition crawling. It has also proven to be a better crawler out of the box than the AX10.

The Losi has also proven to be a great competition crawler out of the box but I haven't heard much about it yet (like it's faults). The worm gear diffs give you very strong drag brake which is useful for crawling and allows the use of non-crawling ESCs (electronic speed controls), though I find too much drag brake can also be detrimental (think going downhill fast and putting on full brakes). It also comes with front and rear digs out of the box, again very good for competition.

Or check the classifieds on the following websites for used ones:

Thanks Richard! Great info. I think as much as i want The Losi i don't think i need it yet. I'm not planning on getting into cometitions yet so i think i will get the Axial AX-10. That'll be more than enough for me.

Where did you order yours from Adrian?
