I am looking for a set of new wheels since i sold my MT Baja's due to different bolt patterns.... Was looking at a set of MTR's with Kevlar.....

Does anyone have any personal experience with these?

Pro's / Con's when taking into account the types of trails around here (I.E. Lavant?)?

Cheers,

Are we talking the new MTRs or the "old" ones?

I've heard good things about the new ones but haven't seen them in action yet.

I saw the new kevlars in action at camp NL this year and I wasn't really impressed, but of course that is just one opinion from limited observation. they didn't seem to grip the rock as well as other tires even after being warmed up.

I ran the old style (35" ) on a DD GMC 1500 with good results, I liked them much better than the BFGs they replaced

Hmm, that's disappointing (regarding rock grip). The guys down in the SW are raving about them but I always keep quiet when they talk about mud. You can tell just by looking at them they are not going to be as good as a dedicated mud tire.

I think they look like a pretty good compromise tire though. Need to see them in action.

they seem to be really popular, and as more people run them the more info will be out there - i just know that the one truck i saw that was running them did alot more tire spinning than everyone else to get up obstacles. Of course there are alot of other factors involved in traction. I would definatly keep an open mind about them because i have also read about alot of guys who love them.

I think you should go Bias. It's not a daily driver and considering how strpong the rest of the truck will be whynot get a stronger tire aswell. my .02

I'd wheel it
They want the lettering out for advertizing purposes. Has nothing to do with the way the tires work. If they were directional they would have little arrows pointing in the direction of rotation.

Blackwall out all the way.:D

It's funny you say that with such dedication, I was looking at a 'Vette ('09 Indy Edition) the other night, and the tires said "This Side Out", not one spot could I see directional arrows, just the text.

I think some of the confusion about MTRs being directional is due to them being assymetrical but Goodyear does say they can go either way.

Some tires have non-symetrical tread patterns to improve cornering and such. Usually larger block surface on the outside for higher G loading, smaller on the inside for wet/dirty surfaces. I thought the new MTR were set up this way also. Chris A. will have some comments I'm sure from his slalom experiance.

Right on the tire design ... but according to GY they are non-directional. It looks weird but that is the way it is designed. I didn't believe it myself at first but that is what GY says.

If I was to hazard a guess, the tread is computer designed and whatever parameters they used in the design were set to allow it to run in both directions.

i called goodyear yesterday and they said to get optimum performance mount them white letters out...and it does say on the tire this side inboard

they might be "asymmetrical tire" i know bf long trails are like that no arrows but says mount inside only something with the design of the tread

Aiight. Let's bring my thread back to topic FFsakes.

Let me throw this in now... Where would the IROK tire come in to the equation?

They seem to wear quickly/badly on the road but seem to stick well on the trails. Cheap too.

What are you trying to achieve? Do you care about street-ability or do you want a tough reliable off-road tire?

If you don't care about what it is like on the street, definitely go BIAS. Either IROK or SX. For an all-around tire, I would go BFG. Never was really impressed with the MTR off the road.....
