I didn't think it would be that much..?

Use the $300 to buy a HVLP gun and associated bits at PA. Then shoot it yourself in decent quality paint and pocket the extra $100.

Had a powder coated bumper and rock rails on my old xj. I hated it, any scratches can't be repaired, well you can- but it doesn't look right and won't last. Bubbled and flaked too. Could have been a lousy job? Basically for anything that might come into contact with another surface I would stay away from powder coating. Personally a king can of flat black tremclad (professional series of course) and go to town. Cheap and easy to touch up after you kiss those rocks.

I had the option when buying my rocker guards to have them powder coated. Decided not to since if I got a scratch, it would look like ass trying to fix it. With rattle can (although I did it in POR15 which is pretty much the same) I can easily fix it cheap.

Powder coat doesn't last in our climate/humidity in my experience. Just paint the parts.

Wait until it goes on sale, I got mine for either $100 or $150. Haven't used it yet so can't comment on how it works.

For a bumper, I'd likely just use a rattle can, nothing to clean up after
