I bought tow hooks for my KK ('09) on the sales guy's recommendation but I want to make sure I can actually use them. I'm not seeing how unless I drill a couple holes for the second bolt on each hook. The part is http://www.keepercorp.com/prod/tow.htm part# 05618.

They will work. I have a set on the back of my TJ. I had to drill a hole in the frame for the second hook.
Edit: ignore this didn't read that you had a KK.

Is the KK not unibody? if so those most certainly will not work. If not, then yes those will work but you will have to drill a hole usually

It is a uni-body. So I should probably return them and order the ones specifically for the KK?
It could be a miss-conception but I was under the impression that MOPAR parts were somewhat under engineered?!

a hook like that on a unibody is a death trap. Theres hundreds of youtube videos of those things breaking off unibodies and there are many injuries from those things ripping right off the Jeep and hitting someone. I'll tell you I most certainly wouldn't tow you out by that, I'd be more likely to tow by your axle and risk your vehicle before I risk my life.

Its not that they are just annoyingly unreliable like alternators on XJs, its that they are down right dangerous.

Edit: I see you're in Smiths Falls, stop by national 4wd and get the correct piece.

National 4WD is far more likely to know what works for off-roading than your Chrysler dealer and have the right parts in stock, so do go pay them a visit.

As for my opinion, one of the best things to start with is a class 2 or better 2" receiver hitch. You can slide the end of most straps in and use a draw bar pin, or use a receiver mount tow ring or hook like this:
http://www.princessauto.com/trailer/trailer/towing/8063745-10000-lb-tow-ring

Warning: NEVER use the ball from a hitch, if it breaks off it's a cannonball!

And my best advise of all, come out on some trail runs with us or at least a meeting and we can show you what we use and talk safety.

Ironically enough that's where I picked them up. I guess I'll be paying them a visit today and getting the right hooks.

Yeah, the guy even took time to come to the truck and have a look to see where it could be positioned.

surprising he would suggest to put it on a unibody... Well make sure you pickup reinforcement brackets and proper hooks. Or just get a bumper.
